Brands React to Bowie Death
This week music icon David Bowie dies from cancer at the age of 69. In reaction to the sad news, global brands started to pay their respects to the legend on social media, with some getting it spot on, with a few others failing to hit the mark at all. Virgin Galactic played on the “Ground Control to Major Tom” singer’s association with space in their tweet whereas the star’s nationality was used for VisitBritain’s homage.
One brand who certainly didn’t get it right and received a huge amount of criticism for it, is Crocs. They tweeted a picture of one of their shoes with a Bowie-esque lightning bolt plastered over the top of it. I’m pretty sure the “Fashion”-conscious singer would not have ever been seen wearing a pair of the brand’s shoes. Since the backlash, the tweet has since been deleted, but there are still pictures to be found on the internet of it.

The down-to-earth pair sing along to the star’s biggest hits as well as discussing their mutual love of The Spice Girls and Adele shows off her little-known rapping skills with a rendition of Nicki Minaj’s “Monster”.

This means there will no more intermittent updates but will continue to be an on-going factor of how a website ranks. The SEM Post received the following quotes from a Google spokesperson: “Panda is an algorithm that’s applied to sites overall and has become one of our core ranking signals. It measures the quality of a site, which you can read more about in our guidelines. Panda allows Google to take quality into account and adjust ranking accordingly.”

On Tuesday, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that a Romanian man had NOT had his privacy violated by his employer who snooped on his Yahoo messenger messages to his family. The court decided that due to the activities being within working hours, the employer had the right to find out what he was up to. So if you’re currently sat at your desk with private messages open, I’d close them down quick…
