Eric the Pekingese Takes the Internet By Storm

If you missed Crufts at the weekend, well, quite simply, you missed out. What could be better than a whole arena full of the cutest dogs ever? Well… allow me to introduce Eric, the Pekingese pooch that melted everyone’s hearts with his quirky look that Twitter has likened to Pan Au Chocolat, Fig Rolls, a cloud… and Donald Trump’s hair.

But Eric didn’t go on to take the top spot, that was reserved for Devon, a West Highland White Terrier, with Hazel the Whippet taking the reserve spot.

Instagram Updates

It seems that all social media channels are now favouring the Facebook style algorithmic news feed as it was announced this week that Instagram will be ditching their reverse chronological feed in the coming months. This news comes only weeks after Twitter decided it would use the top 12 or so tweets in your home feed to show you things it feels would be most relevant to you and your interests. But this is not the only interesting Instagram news this week.

Tomorrow we will be getting a brand new celeb on the popular social media channel, but don’t worry it’s not another Z-list reality star – it’s the Pope! Yes, you did hear me correctly, this week Pope Francis announced that he will celebrate his third anniversary as the head of the Catholic church (March 19th) by joining Instagram to spread the Christian message to a younger audience. The Pope is no stranger to social media having joined Twitter shortly after his appointment as Pope and over this three years he has tweeted 747 times and has a following of nearly 9 million on his English account alone – he also has eight other language accounts. He must be one busy tweeter!

Brands Jump on St Patrick’s Day

Brands love an excuse to jump on the bandwagon and this week it was St Patrick’s Day. Twitter, in particular, was crowded with messages of the world’s largest companies wishing everyone a Happy St Patrick’s Day. Here are a few of my favourite ones.

But not everyone was as excited as these brands were about the day. This man who was asked about what he would be doing to celebrate the day on Irish television programme Midday isn’t really a fan of the day – his reaction required quite a lot of “bleeping”.

And Finally…

IKEA is teaming up with Skype for a competition with a difference next week. Between the 21st and 25th March, if you can find your passport within 30 seconds of receiving a pop-up message from the brand on Skype and hold it up to the camera you will win a £450 holiday. But if you don’t manage to get it in time you will be awarded a Lekman storage unit so you will be able to store your possessions more effectively. So it’s worth being signed in to Skype next week!
