Fantastic NYC

New York & Company, the official tourism and marketing organisation for the city has teamed up with Warner Brothers as part of the launch of the film version of J K Rowling's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".  The partnership, called Fantastic NYC, highlights key locations shown in the film in the hope that Harry Potter mega-fans will be descending on the city in their droves to get a piece of the wizarding action. Highlighting the differences between NYC in the 1920s, when the film is set, and now, and pointing out the best places to spot wild beasts (the zoos and aquariums) the company has created a real hub of content to attract film buffs to the city.

WhatsApp Video Calling

Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced this week that WhatsApp will now be allowing video calling through its app. Facebook has owned the messaging app since 2014 and since then the company has been inundated with requests for this technology to be part of their features. On the official WhatsApp blog it said "There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad." 

Mannequin Challenge

The mannequin challenge has been building momentum for the past month and has seen many celebrities and sports stars get in on the action of sharing videos of themselves in frozen positions while cameras swing around and reveal all of the detail. The craze started by students in the USA but has since travelled around the world. Here are a couple of our favourite ones.

Santa Forgot

Christmas may still be over a month away but the adverts are coming in thick and fast. One advert that has made a big impact this year comes from an unlikely source, Alzheimer's Research. The short film looks at the world where Santa has forgotten about the festive period due to worsening dementia. Narrated by Stephen Fry, the film aims to increase donations to scientific research into the disease to ultimately eradicate it once and for all. 

And Finally...

A man has broken a very British world record this week by dunking a biscuit into a cup of tea from the greatest height. Simon Berry, from Sheffield, bungee jumped from a 75-metre (246 ft) high platform to complete the record. Armed with a chocolate Hobnob and a Union Jack mug the record was officially recorded in the Guinness World Records Book. A camera strapped to Simon's head captured the best view of the feat.
