Amazon to launch a new delivery service
This week, Amazon announced it will be launching Amazon Key: a service that will allow couriers to open people's doors to leave deliveries whilst they aren't home.
In order to use the service, users will need a Cloud Cam camera and smart lock. Once a courier scans the parcel, the smart lock opens the door and the homeowner can watch live on their smartphone via an app.
The service will be launching in the US next month and will only initially be available to Amazon Prime customers.
Facebook shakes up its news feed
Facebook is testing a change to its news feed for non-promoted posts. It will see non-promoted content being placed in a second feed, called the Explore Feed, away from promoted posts and posts by friends. The change is being trialled in six countries currently, including Slovakia, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.
According to CrowdTangle, a Facebook-owned analytics service in Slovakia, 60 of the largest Facebook pages in Slovakia saw huge drops in organic reach by up to 75% after this secondary feed was implemented.
Facebook said: “With all of the possible stories in each person’s feed, we always work to connect people with the posts they find most meaningful. People have told us they want an easier way to see posts from friends and family, so we are testing two separate feeds, one as a dedicated space with posts from friends and family and another as a dedicated space for posts from Pages.”
Facebook currently has no plans to roll out the change to other countries.
Instagram and Snapchat lead ad spend rise
Social media advertising is continuing to grow, with data science company 4C Insights releasing new figures covering Q3 2017. Snapchat and Instagram have led the increase with an ad spend increase of 73% and 55% respectively. In the same time period Facebook's ad spend increase by 27%, whilst Twitter's increased by 36%.
Aaron Goldman, 4C Insights CMO says: “We’re seeing strong growth across all the platforms as brands embrace them for their unique targeting features and massive scale."
