Simon on the Streets

Simon on the Streets provides emotional support for those who are sleeping rough, in need and those who feel they have no one else to turn to in the West Yorkshire area. Importantly the charity tackles the wider issues involved in rough sleeping and all their work is outreach based which their clients are more comfortable with. The charity aims to facilitate positive change in the lives of those they help and we feel they are a very worthy cause.

Search Laboratory were actively involved with Simon on the Streets in 2011 and volunteered for their regular soup runs, as well as helping them improve their online visibility through search optimisation. This help led to them being found by Channel 4's Secret Millionaire program. The show led to a generous donation from former Chief Executive of ITV plc and former Chairman of music giant EMI, Charles Allen (£35,000).

Search Laboratory also supported the charity by taking part in their annual sleep-out event in September to help raise funds:

Helen Beachell, Operations Manager, Simon on the Streets commented:

“Search Laboratory have entered by far the biggest team for Simon On The Streets’ second annual Sponsored Sleep Out Event, with 17 members of their dedicated team sleeping rough for the night to raise funds for the charity.  We are delighted to have the support of the company who have been involved with the charity for some time.”

Simon on the Streets raised over £10,000 from the sleep-out event which saw over 100 people  sleep rough for the night, learning, for real, how it felt to be homeless and vulnerable.

Clive Sandal, Director, explained that it costs £2000 per person, per year to provide intensive rehabilitation services. The money raised goes toward continuing care and help the charity employ new outreach workers.
