Company News

The ‘Giving Something Back’ award recognizes businesses in the UK that contribute to protecting the environment, supporting local charities, and helping the wider community. This is something the whole team is passionate about at Search Laboratory and it’s wonderful to receive this recognition.

The award is part of the UK’s Top 100 Best Mid-Sized Companies list, where we placed 19th overall. We are incredibly proud of this milestone, which is a testament to all of our fantastic people and marks our ninth appearance on the list.

Community focus and fundraising success

Each year, our staff votes for a local charity that we can support through home-grown fundraising efforts and pro-bono digital marketing expertise.

In our Leeds office, our recent charity partnership with Leeds Mind was launched with an ‘Apprentice’-style fundraiser – we turned £460 into £1,685! Over the next year, we have a target of £16,000 to raise for the mental health charity which will provide funding for 200 counseling sessions and peer support for 240 individuals.

Our colleagues in the UK have hosted fundraisers to support the LGBTQ+ community, Leeds Children’s Hospital, and Leeds North Food Bank. Our company charity committee helps us generate innovative ways of involving our teams, and employees have used paid charity days to support Ahead Partnership Schools project and clear local woodlands of an invasive species of Himalayan Balsam.

Similarly in the US, we have hosted an array of fundraising for Guide Dogs, The Children’s Heart Foundation and City Harvest with the likes of bake sales, dog kissing booths and happy hours. We also supported the Congenital Heart Walk at the Bronx Zoo.

A new Austin office and new opportunities

2022 was the first full year in our Austin office, and we couldn’t be more proud of the connections we’ve made, the team we’ve recruited, and the work we’ve provided to our clients. We were able to add over 15 new colleagues to our roster and each share the same passion for digital marketing and community engagement that we look for at Search Laboratory.

For the Thanksgiving and holiday season, our Austin office is raising money for Feeding America, a United States–based network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people via food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies. Our team is reaching out to friends, families, loved ones, and local community members, donating cash and canned goods for the non-profit.

Putting our people first

Our mission is to make Search Laboratory the best place to work and listening to our people is central to achieving this goal. The company’s listening strategy includes engagement surveys, analysis of exit interviews, and post-induction surveys. This means changes are made where it matters most to staff.

Our staff were pivotal in defining our hybrid working policy. After trialing different approaches to flexible working, our staff identified the most streamlined process for the entire company, allowing us to continue our quality service while ensuring that our global company roster can feel close and connected.

When learning and development was raised as the number one priority, we hired an in-house Learning and Development Manager to focus on training and progression opportunities. Programs for aspiring managers and entry-level training have also been rolled out to accelerate learning.

These programs are supported by our 360-Learning platform for on-demand resources along with a digital library for audio and eBook access.

Enhanced benefits

In the US, we provide comprehensive health insurance and matched 401k for all employees. We recently increased the number of observed public holidays from seven to 10, and we now offer up to 28 days PTO. We have also introduced paid four-week sabbaticals on certain work anniversaries.

Our CEO, Chris Attewell, expressed his gratitude for the “Giving Something Back” award:

“To be listed in the Best Companies list for the ninth time is a huge achievement and something that fills me with great pride. This award is a testament to the fantastic teams we have and how much we can achieve moving forward.”
