Company News

We are delighted to announce that we are officially a Certified B Corporation. B Corporations meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance and are legally committed to consider the impact of their decisions on all their stakeholders, not just shareholders.

With this accreditation, we prove our credentials in considering the wellbeing of our people and our impact on the surrounding community when deciding what makes our business a success.

How did we achieve B Corporation Certification?

As a company, we have always cared about doing the right thing by our employees, the environment, and our community. We already have been practicing many of B Corp’s principles for years

Here are some of the things we have been doing.

People

We listen to our staff to ensure a happy, supportive company culture. Employee feedback allowed us to trial various flexible working options and choose the best one. We have also enhanced our benefits to be more practical in a hybrid-working world this year.

This year, we placed 19th in Best Companies’ list of the UK’s Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies to Work For, marking our ninth appearance on the list.

Planet

Considering our impact on the environment is a focus for Search Laboratory as a business. Our Leeds office sends zero waste to landfill and we have targets for water and energy conservation.

We have also achieved scope one and two carbon-neutral status, despite being in a rented office and paying for our modifications to the infrastructure. As we expand our operation in the US, we are excited to continue this pursuit of excellence.

Charity

Our partner charity is nominated by staff with a close connection to the cause, kickstarting frequent fundraising that runs throughout the year. We also offer our employees two paid days per year to give time to a charity of their choice.

Over the last three years, we raised over £18,000 for our previous partner, Leeds Hospitals Charity. In the US, we are running a fundraising drive for Feeding America supporting a network of 200 food banks.

Why did we decide to become certified?

The certification is unique in that it measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact. It places us within a community of businesses that care about their global and community impact, and it provides a simple identity that our staff, clients and suppliers can be proud of.

Becoming certified allows us to show our industry and community that it is possible to be successful and have a positive impact on our world.

What happens next?

Being a B Corporation is a never-ending journey of improvement. Our mission is to reduce our negative impact and amplify our positive impact every year.

We have internal teams that innovate and assess our progress in environmental footprint, charity, and employee wellbeing. We would encourage any company that is interested in becoming a B Corporation to get in touch if you would like advice on what is involved.
