As a little aside to our day to day work Search Laboratory recently collaborated with second year Maths students from the University of Leeds on a project they were working on relating to SEO and PPC.

The project titled ‘Inside Google’ had three main outputs, the first required the team to investigate Google AdWords and the maths that goes into successful PPC campaign management.

The group came to the offices and interviewed Ian Harris, CEO in order to get an insight in to the world of PPC and how a successful AdWords agency operates.

They identified important relevant research that cited over 94% of searchers click first page results and helped emphasised the importance of clever use of both SEO and PPC to ensure businesses are maximising their profitability online.

The students interview with Ian is available to view via their WordPress site – a fictitious agency website called Pretty Damn Click along with some excellent explanations of AdWords and the maths behind effective PPC management. It’s clever stuff and well worth a read!
