Search Laboratory has provided reading help for a Leeds primary school by paying for two Beanstalk readers to tutor children for the next year.
The Beanstalk programme is a national charity that recruits and supports volunteers who go into primary schools to help children who struggle with reading. The two Beanstalk readers Search Laboratory has paid for will work with three children each for two 30-minute sessions a week on a one-to-one basis.
Beanstalk aims to reduce the number of children leaving primary school who are unable to read and has been doing so since 1973.
The money that Search Laboratory has provided will fund two Beanstalk reading tutors for a year, to help children in Carr Manor Primary School, Leeds.
Search Laboratory CEO and founder, Ian Harris, said: “If children can’t read then they cant access any area of the school curriculum. Even Maths relies on children being able to read.”
“This charity has a particular significance because my wife is a specialist teacher working with struggling readers and I have seen how helping a child to read can unlock their potential across their entire school life.”
