We are excited to announce that Search Laboratory has made it into the ‘Best Mid-Size Companies to Work For’ list for 2023. Placed 21st overall, we are incredibly proud everyone considers Search Laboratory as one the ‘Best Mid-Size Companies to Work For’ in the UK.
Search Laboratory has also been presented with a special recognition award marking our tenth appearance on the list, which recognises the business for investing in our employee experience and culture.
We’re so thrilled to celebrate this huge company milestone and it is a testament to everybody’s hard work around the business.
Every year our staff vote to choose a ‘Charity Partner of the Year’ to fundraise for and where possible, our experts can provide digital marketing support toward their initiatives. This year we have partnered with Leeds Mind, with a goal of raising £16,000 which will fund 200 counselling sessions and peer support for 240 people in the community.
2023 has seen us run the Leeds Abbey Dash, conquer the Three Peaks, and face off in a company-wide table tennis tournament. Our combined fundraising efforts have so far raised over £6,000 for Leeds Mind with plenty more fun initiatives planned for the future.
When Emma Clayton, HSE & Wellbeing Manager, was asked what her favourite fundraising activity has been, Emma said:
“My favourite charity event was when every team competed against each other and we did ‘The Apprentice’. We did a charity raffle, cleaning and washing cars, we just all mucked in and raised nearly £2,000.”
Heading into 2023, as well as being recipients of the Best Companies ‘Giving Something Back‘ award, we were delighted to become an officially certified B Corporation. The certification recognises that Search Laboratory meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, as well as considering the wellbeing of our people, our impact on the environment and community initiatives.
We send 0% of the waste from our Leeds office to landfill and our office is powered by 100% renewable energy, both of which allow us to utilise sustainable alternatives to help the environment.
Culturally, we are passionate about listening to the people within our business. Everyone’s opinions guide us on making the next smartest move, whether that be adapting our benefits to suit our employees in the hybrid-working world, or working practices so everybody enjoys a healthy and happy working life.
Ensuring we invest time and support all 140 people that make up Search Laboratory, in the UK and US, is highly important to us. Although we have grown over the years, we still retain the family atmosphere that has always made the business feel special. We are very proud that a number of employees, who were at the agency when we first entered the ‘Best Companies’ list, are still at Search Laboratory today.
Career roadmaps, a calendar of training, 1:1 coaching and mentoring for all levels of the organisation are just some of the activities we deliver to help encourage and support career progression. Plus, earlier this year, we were very excited to launch our first-ever entry-level programme. This gives prior marketing experience, the chance to kick-start their career in the digital marketing industry.
Dan Yeo, our Senior Content Manager, shared his thoughts on what makes Search Laboratory special to him:
“What makes me proud to work at Search Laboratory is looking across the whole company and seeing the number of people who I either started with, or used to manage, and have gone onto bigger roles. That makes me proud of them and of the company for encouraging that.”
Search Laboratory placed number 21 in the ‘Best Mid-Size Companies to Work For’ in the UK, number 10 in the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ in Yorkshire & The Humber, and number 4 in ‘Best Marketing & Media Agency to Work For’ in the UK.
Search Laboratory also received a Special Recognition Award for appearing in the best companies list for the tenth time. This award recognises organisations who have invested in their Employee Experience and Culture for ten years.
On appearing in the ‘Best Companies to Work for‘ list for the tenth time, Renae Shaw, our Head of People, said:
“It’s so important to us to know we’re still doing the right things so making the list never loses its shine. Each and every person makes this the amazing place to work it is, so being able to share this news and celebrate with everyone means a lot to us.”
